Tim dari Pusat Penelitian dan Pengembangan Bioteknologi dan Biodiversitas (P3BB) LPPM dan Fakultas Peternakan UNS yang dipinpin oleh Prof. Adi Ratriyanto memperoleh hibah International Science Partnership Funds (ISPF) dari British Council dan LPDP untuk tahun 2025 – 2026. Proposal yang didanai mengangkat tema “Evidence-Based Support for Improving the Sustainability of Native Poultry in Indonesia”, bekerja sama dengan Prof. Adrian Smith dari Dept. of Biology, University of Oxford dan Dr. Steven Fiddaman dari Pirbright Institute, UK. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memetakan keragaman fenotipik dan genetik ayam lokal di wilayah Wallacea sebagai akibat dari aspek geografis dan budaya.
Sebuah workshop diselenggarakan di Bali (10 Oktober 2025) sebagai rangkaian kegiatan proyek untuk menggali informasi dan pemikiran dari semua stakeholder terkait. Acara dihadiri oleh tim UNS beserta mitra internasional dan dalam negeri; antara lain perwakilan dari Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Diponegoro, Politeknik Lingga, Politeknik Pertanian Negeri Kupang, BRIN, serta Dinas Peternakan Jawa Tengah. Dalam kesempatan ini, anggota tim peneliti, Prof. Sigit Prastowo mengungkapkan bahwa proyek ini juga telah melatih 11 orang fresh graduate dari universitas mitra untuk menjadi enumerator profesional dalam kegiatan pengumpulan data dan sampel. Sehingga, dalam waktu kurang lebih 3 bulan, telah terkumpul sekitar 90% dari data dan sampel yang ditargetkan. Hal ini tidak terlepas dari komitmen dan kerja kolektif seluruh tim dan mitra.
Selain itu pada kesempatan ini, mitra dalam negeri, sebagai local hero juga memaparkan informasi terkait karakteristik dan kondisi peternakan ayam lokal di wilayah masing-masing yang kemudian berkembang menjadi topik diskusi yang menarik sekaligus membuka peluang untuk kerjasama lebih lanjut di masa depan.
A research team from the Center for Research and Development of Biotechnology and Biodiversity (P3BB) and the Faculty of Animal Science at Universitas Sebelas Maret, led by Prof. Adi Ratriyanto, has been awarded the International Research Partnership Fund (ISPF) by the British Council and LPDP for the years 2025–2026. The funded project is titled “Evidence-Based Support for Improving the Sustainability of Native Poultry in Indonesia.” This initiative is conducted in collaboration with Prof. Adrian Smith from the Department of Biology at the University of Oxford and Dr. Steven Fiddaman from the Pirbright Institute. The study aims to characterize the phenotypic and genetic variations of indigenous chickens in the Wallacean region, which is separated by both geographical and cultural factors.
A workshop was held in Bali on October 10, 2025, as part of the project’s activities to gather information and share insights among relevant stakeholders. Attendees included the team from UNS, as well as international and domestic partners, such as representatives from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Universitas Diponegoro, Politeknik Lingga, Politeknik Negeri Kupang, BRIN, and the Livestock Agency of Central Java Province. Prof. Sigit Prastowo, a member of the research team, stated that this initiative has trained 11 recent graduates from UNS and partner institutions to serve as professional staff for data and sample collection. As a result, the team successfully gathered 90% of the complete data and samples necessary for this project within three months. This achievement is due to the dedication and collaborative efforts of the entire team and their partners.
In the afternoon, the domestic partners, recognized as local heroes, presented information about chicken and chicken farms in their respective regions, which subsequently led to engaging and productive discussions. The workshop facilitated knowledge exchange among partners and created new opportunities for future research collaboration with British institutions.
